Dr. Alice von Hildebrand discusses the life of Thomas Merton. As a young child he lost his mother, and by his teenage years his father had passed away. He grew up in a boarding school and led a sinful life. He ended up continuing his schooling at Columbia University and realized how unhappy he was with his life. He studied Catholicism for six weeks and was baptized but did not fully live his faith.

Thomas applied to the Franciscan Monastery, but was rejected. He eventually joined the Abbey of Gethsemani and wrote Seven Story Mountain. In this talk, Dr. Alice von Hildebrand speaks of his downfall and the tragic case he became by not following the mission of his order.
